According to the Quench survey of more than 1000 American workers in 2018, nearly 80 percent of working Americans say they don't drink enough water. Survey participants said they don't drink water because they are not thirsty, drink other beverages, are too busy for water, or don't want to pay for it. Quench survey experts say even mild dehydration can have a negative impact on productivity, energy level, and alertness.
The Challenge: Imagine that you want to drink 70 oz of water a day. How much water is in these glasses and how many glasses will you remember that you drank? Manually tracking water consumption can be distracting, inaccurate, and inconsistent. Ultimately, this can lead to dehydration and low mood.
What if: We combined a hydration app with a smart bottle that tracked users' water intake automatically? Instead of a mobile notification, the bottle had a visible or audible reminder? Moreover, allowing the user to track his or her condition throughout the day?
Meet my user Judy Park.
She is 42, and a focused, strong-willed woman who has many responsibilities at her work. She loves wine tasting and drinks many cups of coffee during the day at work. Judy and her husband recently relocated from NYC to LA. She feels fatigued after moving and thinks she has heat stroke or is reacting to changes in the climate. So she visits her family doctor, and the doctor advises her to stay hydrated. Health is a priority. She is willing to try essentials such as hydration. Now Judy is searching for the right app to stay hydrated.
The users are willing to buy multiple smart bottles to add their favorite drinks such as coffee or wine.
Duration and occurrence options have been added to the glow reminder.
Audio reminder includes a variety of audio ringtones and occurrence options.
A fresh taste of water is important to users. ,
Users wanted more detailed settings.
The second highlight is the Smart bottle iteration.
The users said about the competitor's smart bottle, "It looks like a tumbler, it would be nice to have a twist cap, as well as a holder." Many users were confused by the multiple colors of the glow reminder that were displayed on the bottom of the bottle.
From the users' feedback, SmartHydro has a regular twist cap, and a universal water bottle silhouette, and comes with a detachable holder that sits on a magnetic location on the bottle when not in use.
Reminder glow colors are organized into three categories. First, when the user is behind, the red glow blinks for a few seconds, pauses for a few minutes then recurring until the user drinks from the bottle. A green glow appears twice when the user reaches their goal. The blue glow appears once after the user drinks.
Now, Judy has a SmartHydro bottle and cup. She is setting up the app for the first time. After signing up, and finishing the onboarding, Judy adds the bottles and sets up the glow and audio reminder.
After the setup is finished, Judy just needs to drink water from the smart bottle. Whenever she drinks, the intake data is automatically displayed on the main screen. She can easily monitor her progress on her Phone or Apple Watch anytime she wants.
